Pakistan and Turkish naval forces conducted joint exercises in the Arabian Sea. The Turkish Navy Ship TCG GOKCEADA also participated in joint Pakistan and Turkish bilateral naval exercise, TURGUTREIS-III. TCG GOKCEADA had arrived at Karachi on February 7 to take part in Multinational Maritime Exercise AMAN-19, which was hosted by Pakistan Navy. This is the third exercise of TURGUTREIS series; the earlier two were conducted in Pakistani and Turkish waters respectively. Pakistan Navy Ships ALAMGIR, ASLAT and Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft (LRMP) also participated in the exercise. TURGUTREIS-III was beneficial to personnel from both navies. The exercises covered a wide range of maritime operations, including tabletop discussions in the harbour on modern naval warfare tactics, maritime security procedures, experiences and areas of mutual cooperation. Many maritime related manoeuvres were also conducted at sea, which enabled crews from both navies to consolidate their tactical skills as well as work upon their interoperability. Pakistan and Turkey enjoy strong relations based on religious brotherhood and cultural affinity. Defence forces of both countries regularly interact on various forums. Their naval forces have been particularly active in joint collaborations in professional interactions, which include multilateral and bilateral exercises. Turkish Navy is a regular participant of the biennial AMAN exercise, hosted by Pakistan Navy since 2007. Published in Daily Times, February 17th 2019.
