PESHAWAR: Deputy Speaker and Senior Pediatrician Mehar Taj Roghani has said that innovating methods should be adopted to ensure vaccination to every child with specific focus on new born babies and asked the concerned quarters to tap every opportunity to inoculate every child against poliomyelitis. Every missed child is a lost opportunity for polio eradication and unless every child was vaccinated against polio the disease will not be wiped out from the region, she said while inaugurating a polio campaign at Lady Reading Hospital on Monday. Also present on the occasion were Coordinator Emergency Operations Center Akbar Khan, Team Leader UNICEF Dr Johar, Dean LRH Arshad Khan, WHO Representative Dr Salam and Technical Focal Person BMGF Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah. Mehar Taj Roghani said that unfortunately Pakistan was among the last three endemic countries along with Nigeria and Afghanistan where virus was still circulating in certain reservoir areas and hoped that the transmission would be stopped soon if the teams continue to work with the same spirit. “Polio was a stigma for the country and the sooner we get rid of it the better it is for our children”, she said, adding that provincial government was fully committed to stamp out the disease from the soil.
