Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday rebuked the incumbent government for what he described as ‘undemocratic’ accountability measures. Referring to the arrest of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif, Abbasi stated, “A 60-day-long physical remand of an opposition leader is undemocratic”. He added that no corruption charges against the Sharif brothers had ever been proven in court. Addressing a press conference outside Rawalpindi Press Club with Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Mariyum Aurangezeb, Abbasi said that accountability was essential and tax evaders should be taken to task. The former premier cautioned the government of continued inflation.”Unless the government doesn’t clarify its economic policies, a looming threat of inflation shall remain,” said Abbasi, adding that the government had failed to devise policies.
