ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday has approved amendments is the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s finance bill. Finance Minister Asad Umer while finalizing the debate on supplementary budget in National Assembly said that restrictions imposed in the Federal Budget on the purchase of property and vehicles by non-filers with three exemptions will be continued. The finance minister said that overseas Pakistanis and those acquiring property through inheritance would be exempted and those purchasing vehicles of capacity less than 200-CC would also be exempted from the restriction. “Fines would be imposed if someone acquires property or a vehicle despite being a non-filer,” Asad said. Asad underscored that government will use modern technology to expand the tax net and a beginning has been made by issuing notices to 169 big defaulters. He stated that second phase of the campaign would also be launched this week and the number of notices would be reach to thousands. The finance minister appealed to the well-to-do to settle their due taxes and contribution towards progress of the country. He assured of on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan that the tax money would be utilized sensibly. Asad calarified that the supplementary budgetary proposals would be effective from first of July this year.
