ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has arrived in Islamabad on a three-day official visit to Pakistan to meet the new Pakistan Trehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government leaders. “Chinese FM would hold formal talks with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday at the foreign ministry where all aspects of the bilateral relations would be reviewed”, foreign office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal told Daily Times. The visit by Chinese FM to Pakistan will take place two days after US secretary of state Mike Pompeo came for a one-day visit, where bilateral relations and regional security including Afghanistan came under discussion. Wang Yi would also call on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday and would congratulate him over assuming the office of PM. The Chinese top diplomat is also expected to meet military leaders during his visit where security and defense cooperation between two countries would be discussed. Dr Faisal termed the visit by Chinese FM “a very positive development” saying that since the formation of the PTI government in Pakistan visits by Iranian, US and Chinese dignitaries signifies the importance Pakistan enjoys in the region and in the world. “Progress of all aspects including security aspects of CPEC would also be discussed during Wang Yi visit,” Dr Faisal commented.
