SHIKARPUR: 72nd Independence Day was observed with national zeal, enthusiasm and fervour in Shikarpur on the eve of August 14. Reportedly, the deputy commissioner (DC) Syed Hassan Raza hoisted the national flag at the Government High School No 2 during a ceremony in which number of officials of district administration, politicians, notables, teachers and students and activists of several social organisations participated. The day-long festivities began with thanksgiving and Special prayers for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan, and the hoisting of the national flag at buildings of educational institutes and other important public buildings in Shikarpur, which had been decorated with bunting and lights ahead of August 14. Students performed patriotic songs, speeches and tableau while pledging to strive for development and prosperity of the country. Jammat Islah ul Muslimeen carried out a ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ rally on the occasion. On the other hand, Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) also marked the day with patriotism during a ceremony at the Government Cluster Schools and Government High School. Every nook and corner of schools was illuminated with slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while students, teachers and youths wore green and white dresses. SRSO Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Muhammad Dital Kalhoro urged students and members of local community to realise the significance of independence and play their role to strengthen Pakistan. The celebrations ended with a colourful programme presented by students. Later, CEO Kalhoro, Admin senior manager Shahzaib Mahar, Social Services Sector manager Naimatullah Shaikh and USAID Schools manager Muhammad Akram Shaikh presented awards to the students.
