Islamabad: Prime Minister Justice (R) Nasir-ul-Mulk chaired a meeting of the interim Federal Cabinet at Prime Minister’s Office. The interior secretary briefed the cabinet regarding the general security of the country and the preparations being made to maintain law and order during the General Elections. The security measures include deployment of over 42,000 Civil Armed Forces, sharing information with the provincial governments through NACTA and provision of aviation support and technical assistance by FIA and NADRA. The Cabinet emphasized on the role of the provincial governments in ensuring the abidance of the Election Code of Conduct and the strict implementation of security protocols. It was also highlighted that the provincial governments should keep political leaders up to date regarding the security measures being taken in corner meetings and political gatherings. The Cabinet also approved various measures proposed by the Finance Division which include the facilitation of the implementation of the Action Plan to fulfil the country’s commitment towards eliminating money laundering and countering terror-financing. The Cabinet endorsed a proposal for contributions by the employees of the federal government towards construction of Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam. According to the proposal, the salaries of two days of officers (BS 17-22) and the salaries of one day of officials (BS-1-16) will be donated to the cause. The Cabinet members will contribute one month of their salaries to the fund. The appointment of Mr. Muhammad Saleem, District & Session Judge, as Judge of Banking Court-II, Lahore for a period of three years was approved. The Cabinet also approved withdrawal of a Summary dated 13th July, 2018 and the a order issued under Sub-Section (B) of Section 16 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999. The Cabinet approved the Ordinance for re-validation of Competitive Examination Rules in years 2016 and 2017. The meeting also approved a proposal to assign the of the post of Chairman, Port Qasim Authority to Mr. Asad Rafi Chandna (BS-21). The Cabinet also approved issuance of a notification regarding exemption of federal taxes in the areas of erstwhile FATA/PATA, initially for a period of three months. Amendment in Section 6(3) of Elections Act, 2017 was also approved by the Federal Cabinet.
