As elections approach, fissures become more apparent in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). Former deputy convener Shahid Pasha launched a tirade against the party leaders for not providing tickets to the deserving families of martyrs for the general election of 2018. Pasha also accused the The Rabita Committee of turning party workers into criminals and claimed that they were involved in illegal land occupation. Faisal Subzwari maintained that MQM had submitted the papers of 7 families’ members of martyrs for polls; 2 were of sisters, 2 wives and 1 offspring of martyrs. “If workers go to reveal something true about the party, they are targeted. If something bad happens with me 8 Rabita Committee members will be responsible”, Pasha informed the media. While talking to media Pasha said that that Kanwar Naveed had a 50-acre farmhouse in Hyderabad and Wasim Akhtar needed to show his sources of wealth. “How did he (Waseem Akhtar) buy his bungalow in DHA?,” asked Pasha. “Those who deal in meat business must disclose that from where they got all that money,” he continued. Criticizing Amir Khan, Pasha said that Amir Khan did not meet the families of the party’s martyrs. Shahid Pasha also accused the Amir Khan’s group of favoritism in the ticket distribution process. He claimed that Sattar was used to gain an edge and promote personal interests. On the other hand, Farooq Sattar said, “I invited Pasha to sort out the embarrassing situation between the Rabita Committee, I distanced myself from Pasha’s accusations and we did our best to explain things to him, but Shahid Pasha did what he wanted. The allegations would have been accepted if there was any proof” According to spokesman MQM Pakistan, party has suspended basic membership of Shahid Pasha for violating party discipline over issuing his various statements to the media deemed as a violation of the party discipline.
