SHIKARPUR: An unmarried woman and her alleged paramour were shot dead on Wednesday at Sehri time with a shotgun by her close relative over having illicit relations, at village Abdul Samad Jatoi Katcha area of Madeji town of Ghari Yasin tehsil of Shikarpur district, in the vicinity of Jamalpur police station. Saleem Raza Abro, the SHO of the above mentioned police station, told this scribe that suspect Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi shot his close relative Ms. Samina, 20 years of age, daughter of Abdul Samad and Ayaz Ahmed Soomro, resident of village Mirzapur, killed with a shotgun over suspicion of illegal relations on 28th Ramadan Sharif before Eidul Fitr and managed to escape from place of crime. SHO further elaborated that following on the information the area police reached the spot and transported the bodies to Taluka Hospital Madeji and handed over to their heirs after conducting medical-legal formalities. The killed Ayaz Ahmed Soomro was said to be Hafiz Quran and mostly used to visit the village. A large number of women have been killed for a long over pretext of Karo-Kari [honor killing] in Sindh especially Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Ghotki, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur districts of northern Sindh despite having several laws to prevent women from killing. Human Rights activists including Zahid Bhanbhro, Mian Zafar Alvi and others urged the government to implement its writ and extend its efforts to provide education in order to decrease such incidents. The local police have failed to arrest the accused till filling of this news story. Besides, a case [02/2018] has been registered at Jamalpur police station against Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi and his accomplices on behalf of the state.
