KHAIRPUR: Two motorists were crushed to death on Wednesday by prisoner transport van near Kumb, a town in the Khairpur district of Sindh province. According to a report, a prisoner transport van rammed into a motorcycle at old national highway near Arib Solangi village. Consequently, Imam Dino and his son Sheeraz Ali died on the spot. The bodies were handed over to their family after medico-legal procedure was completed at Kot Diji Hospital. Meanwhile, the van driver managed to escape from the scene. SALU distributes prizes among winners of Cricket Tournament Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Wednesday conducted a prize distribution ceremony of Inter Hostels Boys Cricket Tournament 2018. The Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah distributed prizes amongst the winners and runners-up team. In her address to the ceremony, Dr Parveen considered sports and co-curricular activities as an integral part of academics. Healthy brain enhances one’s abilities to prosper, develop and progress towards his professional objectives. She congratulated the winners and runners-up teams and expressed hope that the winning sportsmen would represent the institution at the national level. She appreciated the efforts and counseling of Prof Dr Fayaz Raza Chandio, Provost Hostels and Administrative Officer (Hostels) Syed Muhammad Waqar Shah to organise the tournament in a befitting manner. Reportedly, seven teams participated, however, 200-Boys-Hostal team King secured the first place while Sachal Sarmast-Hostel team Tiger was runner-up. According to details, team King won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 132 runs in total, whereas, team Tiger scored only 87 runs. Team King clinched the trophy with Rs3,000 as cash prize. Team Tiger received runners-up trophy with Rs2,000 as cash prize. A player Dildar Narejo was declared man-of-the-tournament while Kashif Ali was man-of-the-match. Later, shirts were distributed among the players of both teams. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Registrar Prof Dr Taj Muhammad Lashari, Media Coordinator Muhammad Murad Pirzada, Physical Education Director Syed Muhammad Waqar Shah, Administrative Officer (Hostels) Muhammad Aslam Shar, Dastar Ali Chandio and Wardens were also present on the occasion. Two minor girls drown in canal near Ubaro Two minor girls drowned on Wednesday in a Dahar canal near Ubaro, a town of Ghotki District in Sindh province. Reportedly, seven-year-old Babi Rahmat and eight-year-old Sajida Rind were playing near Dahar when they suddenly fell into a canal and drowned to death. Resultantly, the villagers rushed to the canal and recovered the bodies after 8 hours of search. Measles virus claims three more lives Three more children lost their lives on Wednesday due to the outbreak of the measles virus near Kumb, a town in the Khairpur district of Sindh province. According to a report, the virus has spread across Kumb and its adjoining region. Eight-year-old Gopnag, five-year-old Zeeb and daughter of Ahmed Ali died in Jaro Khan Gopang village near Kumb. Meanwhile, more than 14 children are still suffering from the deadly disease in the region.
