LAHORE: Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Skin Department arranged an awareness walk against AIDS on Saturday. A large number of doctors, nurses and medical students participated in the awareness walk in which they were holding placards and banners where slogans were written about the symptoms of AIDS, its prevention and treatment. Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Professor Dr Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab, in his address highlighted that “we can avoid this menace by following Islamic teaching. He said that sexual relations with other than your life partner is the main cause of AIDS and apart from all advancement, medical science is also unable to find proper treatment of this disease”. The PGMI principal said that awareness among masses regarding AIDS was a must so that before time prevention could be ensured. He lauded the efforts of the Skin Department of LGH for such events which would directly help in creating awareness among masses. LGH Skin Department Head Dr Sadia Siddique stressed the need to remain careful about skin changes as AIDS can be gauged through skin easily. She asked the patients to immediately contact the hospital if any change occurs on skin so that proper diagnosis could be done. Punjab AIDS Programme Head Dr Maheen Syed and manager operations Mohsin Arshad in their addresses highlighted the efforts of the Punjab government about AIDS prevention. Professor Dr Agha Shabir, Professor Dr Farhat Naz, Professor Mohammd Nazir and Professor Dr Farah Shafi and Nursing Superintendent Razia Bano also attended the symposium held at Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences and called it a “good omen”.
