LAHORE: In the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, contested at the Lahore Gymkhana Club Golf Course here Sunday, out of a total 91 competing amateurs, the race for top honors was won by a very young upcoming golfer, Hassan Samiuddin. This talent loaded golfer won with an admirable stableford format-based points accumulation of 40 points, built up through steady and accurate hitting and nerve free putting. Throughout the 18 holes at this event, organised by the Turkish Airlines, Hassan was continuously hounded by some very accomplished golfers like Jamal Nasir, Asim Tiwana, Abdullah Sharif, Mohsen Zafar, Qasim Ali Khan, Taimur Shabir, Waleed Zubair and Omer Zia, yet he remained composed. And his dynamics were clear: just hit well and the rest of the game will fall in place. And by all accounts he precisely did that. “The resolve to play to a plan has done wonders,” he said and complimented the Turkish Airlines for awarding him a 10 days trip to Turkey to participate in an international championship in Turkey. The general manager of the Turkish Airlines informed that this event was held in 70 countries of the world and the winner from each country was a part of the championship. Other significant performers during this 18 holes event were Jamal Nasir and Abdullah Sharif. Jamal attained the second position with a stableford points tally of 39 points and the third position went to Abdullah Sharif. Both had the same level of 39 points but Jamal was declared second as he had a better score on the last three holes. The championship was followed by a prize distribution ceremony where Sardar Daniz, Counsel General of Turkey, Dr Jawad Khan, acting chairman of Lahore Gymkhana, and Shoukat Javed, convener golf, gave away prizes to the winners.
