KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police in collaboration with the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) claim to have killed at least two suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the kidnapping of schoolchildren in Karachi’s Defence area. Five-year-old Muhammad Abban was kidnapped while returning home with his mother from Haque Academy, a private school in Karachi’s posh area of Defence on December 6. The jurisdiction of the school falls under the Darakshan police station, Zubair Habib, chief CPLC confirmed. “The family received ransom demand for payment of Rs150 million for the safe release of the child. After negotiation, the deal was finalised at Rs300, 000. The Governor of Sindh, Muhammad Zubair, also took immediate notice of this incident and directed CPLC and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for immediate recovery of the kidnapped child,” he said in a recently released statement. The joint team of CPLC, AVCC and Rangers Special Task Centre (RSTC) started investigating the case after receiving a call from the kidnappers. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered in Police Station Sahil, District South Karachi, under PPC Sec.365-A. The investigation was later transferred to AVCC Karachi for the detection and apprehension of the kidnappers. SSP AVCC reported to IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khowaja that in the early hours of Saturday, a joint operation comprising of the AVCC and CPLC personnel conducted a raid to arrest kidnappers. Two kidnappers who were later identified as Zaheer Mirza and Zaki opened fire in an attempt to escape. In return fire, both kidnappers were killed on the spot near Kamran Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Ransom money of Rs100, 000, a purse and cell phone belonging to the child’s mother were also recovered. IG Police, Sindh, AD Khowaja announced Rs100, 000 cash award for the AVCC team for their prompt action and commending efforts in the matter. Women killed: Meanwhile three women were killed in separate incidents of violence in different localities of the metropolis on Saturday. Police said that a woman was stabbed by robbers with sharp edged knife upon resistance during robbery in Block “H” of North Nazimabad area of Karachi. Armed robbers gunned down a woman Ambreen 35, upon resistance during a robbery in Soldier Bazaar.
