Karachi authorities announced strict measures against aerial firing during New Year celebrations as the city prepares to welcome 2026. Additional Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho stated that all firing incidents will now be treated as attempted murder, emphasizing zero tolerance for law violations. Safe City cameras will help identify offenders immediately.
Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon urged citizens to avoid reckless behaviour, stunts, and gunfire, warning that negligence could result in loss of precious lives. Police personnel have been deployed in hotels, parks, and religious sites to maintain public safety. Key roads and markets remain under constant surveillance to prevent incidents.

A total of over 7,200 officers and personnel have been deployed across Karachi to ensure peaceful celebrations. This includes 4,412 constables, 2,117 female personnel, 336 police mobiles, and 646 motorcycle patrol teams covering all city zones, with the South Zone receiving the largest deployment of 4,237 personnel.
Authorities announced detailed traffic arrangements for the celebrations, including one-way movement on Seaview Road from McDonald’s to the Clock Tower. Vehicles returning from the Clock Tower will be redirected via Khayaban-e-Ittihad Road or Do Darya route. Heavy vehicles will be allowed entry only after 2am, while vehicles with broken or absent silencers face legal action.

For the first time, Karachi Police will deploy drones to monitor aerial firing in high-risk areas including Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Azizabad, and Nazimabad. Drones are connected to more than 16 police stations, and captured footage will be used to register cases against violators. Authorities also urged residents to report suspicious activity via hotline 15.
Officials emphasized celebrating the New Year safely and responsibly. Large crowds are expected at Seaview, Clifton, and Ibn-e-Qasim Park, and authorities stressed maintaining calm and cooperation. Strict enforcement and technological monitoring aim to make Karachi’s New Year celebrations secure for all citizens.
