Lahore's Liberty Chowk decorated with 42-foot high Christmas tree

The Christian community celebrated Christmas in Lahore with renewed enthusiasm this year as a towering 42-foot-tall Christmas tree installed at the Liberty Roundabout became the centre of festive cheer and public attention.

Installed with the support of the Punjab government, the giant tree drew large crowds from across the city, including families, young people and passers-by, many of whom stopped to take photos and selfies. With glowing neon signs reading “Merry Christmas” on either side, the installation quickly became a popular social media attraction, symbolising an inclusive and celebratory spirit in the provincial capital.

A 42-foot-tall Christmas tree 🎄 has been installed at Liberty Chowk, Lahore, as a powerful gesture of love, plurality, and inclusion. It reflects the message that minorities are not only safe in Punjab but are also valued, respected, and an integral part of the social fabric. pic.twitter.com/6P6OjgEgWJ

As night fell, the festive display came alive with colourful lights illuminating the tree and surrounding area. Decorative installations featuring snowmen, penguins, polar bears and artificial snow added to the visual appeal, creating a winter-themed atmosphere rarely seen at public spaces in the city. The fountain at the centre of the roundabout was also lit with vibrant colours, enhancing the overall spectacle.

For many residents, the celebrations marked a rare and welcome occasion where Christmas was observed on such a grand scale at a prominent public location. Members of the Christian community expressed surprise and appreciation at the level of official support and public participation.

Andaleeb, a member of the Christian community who visits Lahore during the holiday season, said she had never witnessed such large-scale Christmas festivities in the city before. She described the experience as heartening, particularly seeing people from different backgrounds joining in the celebrations.

The festive atmosphere extended beyond Liberty Roundabout. Trees along Gulberg Main Boulevard were illuminated, nearby buildings displayed Christmas greetings, and other areas of the city also embraced the holiday spirit. In DHA’s Raya area, Christmas trees were installed and buildings were lit up to mark the occasion.

The celebrations reflected a growing sense of inclusivity and communal harmony, with many Lahoris welcoming the festive mood and sharing in the joy of the season alongside the Christian community.
