COAS Asim Munir vows to defend Pakistan’s borders

Field Marshal Asim Munir addresses Peshawar Jirga, reaffirms resolve against terrorism

PESHAWAR – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability during his visit to Peshawar on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Addressing a Jirga of tribal elders, the Army chief emphasized that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with all neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan. However, he cautioned that the country would not tolerate any form of cross-border terrorism launched from Afghan territory.

During his visit, Field Marshal Munir was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps and briefed at Headquarters 11 Corps on the prevailing security situation, operational readiness, and ongoing counter-terrorism operations along the Pak-Afghan border. He commended the tribal communities for their unwavering support to security forces and lauded their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

The tribal elders reaffirmed their support for the armed forces, rejecting extremist ideologies and pledging unity against terrorism. The Army chief made it clear that Pakistan’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness, highlighting that the Afghan Taliban regime must act against militant groups operating from its soil.

Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate terrorism from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other affected regions, assuring that all terrorist networks and their facilitators would be eliminated. The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of trust and cooperation between the military leadership and tribal representatives.
