Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the law and order situation in the country as the two met on Sunday, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
The statement added that PM Shehbaz was also briefed on the development projects under way in Islamabad.
The meeting between the premier and the interior minister comes a week after they had met ahead of a police operation to dismantle the protest camp of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Muridke.
In a related development, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi met with Mohsin Naqvi at his residence in Lahore on Sunday to discuss the overall law and order situation in the province and recent incidents of terrorism.
During the meeting, both leaders held detailed discussions on the ongoing operations against the outlawed elements in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the prevailing Pakistan-Afghanistan border situation and the efforts being made to restore sustainable peace in the region.
They paid tribute to the security forces for their effective operations against Indian-backed militant groups and expressed deep respect for the police personnel martyred in the recent terrorist attacks on the Police Training Centre and NADRA office in Dera Ismail Khan. The two also discussed the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damaged facilities.
Governor Kundi emphasized that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are peace-loving and that lasting peace is essential for the province’s progress and prosperity.
He said intelligence-based operations against terrorists and anti-state elements are crucial to ensuring public safety.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to defeating terrorism, saying that the nefarious designs of Indian-backed militants will never succeed.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, describing them as invaluable to the nation’s security and unity.
Separately, the newly elected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has called for a grand peace jirgah on October 25, in the province’s Khyber district, in a bid to discuss avenues for “establishment of peace” in the province.
In a statement on X, Afridi said, “For the establishment of peace, a grand peace jirga of tribal elders, leaders, and youth – transcending political affiliations – will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Khyber District, Bara Tehsil.”
Stressing the need for prioritising the will of KP’s people in deciding the matters of the province, he said, “The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will themselves decide their lives and their future.”
“No one will be allowed to impose decisions made in closed rooms on the people,” he said, vowing that the KP government “will stand with Imran Khan’s ideology and the interests of the people.”
The development comes as the province witnesses a rise in terrorist attacks, which escalated after the TTP broke a fragile ceasefire deal with the state in November 2022 and vowed to target security officials, police, and LEAs personnel.
Moreover, Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati on Sunday summoned the provincial assembly session on October 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
The session, which was earlier adjourned until October 27, has now been rescheduled to an earlier date. According to the Assembly Secretariat, necessary arrangements have been completed for the upcoming sitting.
