Trump’s peace plan gains Erdogan’s support, Gaza future in balance

Published on: September 30, 2025 3:08 PM

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the Gaza war. He said Trump showed strong leadership by pushing for peace. Erdogan made the remarks after Trump announced a ceasefire plan backed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two leaders revealed the proposal during their meeting in Washington. Erdogan called for a fair and lasting peace acceptable to all sides.

The U.S.-backed plan includes several key points. It calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. It proposes exchanging Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The plan also outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. It demands Hamas disarm and hand control to an international transitional government. However, it remains unclear whether Hamas will accept the deal.

Erdogan expressed support for the peace process on social media. He posted his statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. He said Turkey would keep supporting efforts for a lasting solution. Erdogan also urged the international community to push for peace. He added that bloodshed in Gaza must end immediately.

Turkey has been a strong critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza. It has called the ongoing assault a “genocide.” In response, Turkey halted all trade with Israel earlier this year. It has also demanded global action against Netanyahu and his government. Erdogan continues to support a two-state solution for lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is actively engaging in regional diplomacy. On Monday, he spoke with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan. They discussed Trump’s peace proposal and regional cooperation. As support for the plan grows, all eyes are now on Hamas and its next move.
