ISLAMABAD: A number of events were held in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday to mark the International Workers Day. Government functionaries, civil society representatives and labour leaders participated in the events to mark the day. The participants demanded more rights for the working classes. They said that the government should ensure that workers were provided all facilities and their rights were protected. On the occasion of the International Labour Day, Senator Sehar Kamran paid rich tribute to workers. “We salute our labour class and recognise their services which they have rendered for the development of the country,” she said. Senator Sehar Kamran said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was the only party that gave full representation to workers. “In the national sphere, the PPP raises its voice for the downtrodden. PPP has always stood for the welfare of the labour class and believes in providing shelter and protection for all,” she said. Senator Kamran said the PPP followed the vision its founder Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. “We have to uplift the socio-economic status of the worker class. The current PPP leadership, under the Chairmanship of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is committed to giving the labour class their due share. We have time and again pledged to ensure the protection of their rights,” she said.
