Alibaba enters AI smart glasses race with quark launch

Published on: July 28, 2025 4:04 PM

Chinese tech giant Alibaba has officially stepped into the smart wearables market with the launch of its first AI-powered smart glasses. Named Quark AI Glasses, the new device is powered by Alibaba’s own Qwen large language model and its intelligent assistant, Quark. The glasses are expected to be available in China by the end of 2025, marking Alibaba’s bold move into a space currently dominated by Meta and other rivals.

With this launch, Alibaba directly challenges Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and domestic competitor Xiaomi, which introduced AI glasses earlier this year. By entering this market, Alibaba aims to secure a strong position in the evolving world of AI-integrated consumer tech. The company’s focus is on blending functionality with innovation to enhance everyday tasks through seamless smart technology.

Although the full specifications and price of the Quark AI Glasses have not been disclosed, Alibaba has confirmed several core features. These include hands-free calling, real-time translation, music playback, meeting transcription, and a built-in camera. Such capabilities are designed to help users navigate daily life more efficiently while staying connected and informed.

In addition to smart features, the glasses will integrate deeply with Alibaba’s ecosystem. Users will be able to make payments via Alipay, shop on Taobao, and access real-time navigation—all through the glasses. This connection to Alibaba’s digital services will create a highly personalized and practical experience for consumers across China.

Moreover, this move aligns with the company’s broader goal of leading China’s AI development. Quark, the AI assistant introduced earlier this year as a mobile app, will now expand into hardware—offering users an immersive, interactive experience. Through this hardware-software synergy, Alibaba aims to boost user engagement and drive innovation in smart computing.

Although an exact launch date and global availability remain unconfirmed, Alibaba has guaranteed a domestic release by the end of the year. As the tech race intensifies, the Quark AI Glasses could become a key product shaping the future of wearable technology in China and beyond.
