The federal government has taken a major step to meet an IMF condition. It will now publicly disclose the assets of all civil servants in Grade-17 and above. The move is part of efforts to improve transparency and reduce corruption in government departments.
President Asif Ali Zardari signed the Civil Servants (Amendment) Act, 2025. The Establishment Division issued the official notification, which has been sent to all ministries and divisions. A new clause, Section 15(A), has been added to the Civil Servants Act, 1973.
Under this law, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will collect and publish the asset details. Officers will have to declare their personal and family assets, both in Pakistan and abroad. These details will be updated regularly through a digital system.
Although the officers’ personal data will stay secure, their financial and asset records will be publicly visible. This will allow citizens, institutions, and media to monitor public officials’ financial transparency. It aims to build trust in the public service system.
This reform is one of many steps agreed upon with the IMF to ensure good governance. It is expected to boost accountability, prevent illegal wealth accumulation, and improve Pakistan’s international financial reputation. Experts call it a bold but much-needed move.
