The Supreme Court of Pakistan required detailed reports from the federal government and all provinces regarding forest lands. The case was addressed by a five-member constitutional bench led by Justice Aminuddin Khan. The court emphasized the need for information on lands that are either occupied or up for auction. During the hearing, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail raised concerns about Islamabad’s boundaries and asked for updates. A government lawyer assured him that the issue had been resolved. Justice Mandokhail also noted that forest areas are increasing globally, while they are declining in Pakistan. He questioned the government about the lack of alternative energy sources in cold regions like Ziarat, where temperatures drop to minus 17 degrees. The government lawyer responded that LPG is being supplied in these areas. Additionally, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired about subsidies for poor residents in hilly regions. Judge Aminuddin Khan highlighted the government’s duty to provide better facilities for the public. He mentioned that since 2018, only reports have been submitted regarding this matter. After the discussions, the court postponed the hearing indefinitely.
