The driver of a dumper truck involved in a collision with a police vehicle on Sharea Faisal has been detained. After fleeing the scene, he surrendered to the authorities, who confirmed his arrest on Monday. The incident, which was captured on video, ignited widespread outrage and drew attention to safety concerns involving heavy vehicles in Karachi.
According to reports, the driver claimed he fled because he feared mob violence. He stated that motorcyclists were chasing him and he was worried that they would set his vehicle on fire. This fear stems from recent cases of mob violence linked to accidents involving heavy trucks. The police are taking his claims seriously as they investigate the situation.
Before the driver turned himself in, Karachi Traffic Police took action by seizing 27 dumper trucks. They also issued fines to 142 drivers for violating traffic regulations. This crackdown followed a lack of cooperation from the Dumper Association, which initially agreed to help locate the driver and vehicle involved but later withdrew their support.
