ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan ‘backtracked’ on his earlier stance on the trail of 0.1 million pounds sterling after he submitted new documents in the Supreme Court on Monday. In his earlier documents, he had apprised the court that he spent 0.1 million pounds on the legal fees of his apartment’s dispute in a court of London. However, in the fresh documents, he has contended that the amount had initially been retained by his company Niazi Services Limited (NSL), however, later it was remitted to him by the NSL. In his fresh documents, he stated that he was initially informed by the directors and shareholders of the NSL in 2003 that about 0.1 million pounds were retained by the NSL for legal fees to pursue the decision of a UK court against them. However, after an appellate court decided the matter in their favour, the NSL transferred 40,000 pounds to his account in May 2014. He stated that since the amount was not recalled earlier by him and his tax consultants, thus he had not apprised the court about it. He further stated that an amount of 42,456 euros was remitted to him after the NSL reached a settlement with the tenant of the London flat in two installments in 2007 and 2008. He stated that he declared the amount of 40,000 pounds to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) when he was an MNA. The documents again stated that Khan contested and won the 2002 and 2013 elections only and that he did not take part in the 2008 polls. The documents state that an amount of 43,456 euros was only declared to the FBR and not to the ECP, as he had ceased to be an MNA in 2008. He stated that the position taken earlier on the amount of 0.1 million pounds retained by the NSL in 2003 was based on memory, incorrect advice, absence of requisite record and lack of documentary information, etc. The documents submitted by Khan earlier this month to the apex court had stated that the balance amount of 99,000 pounds in the NSL bank account had been spent on legal matters and no more money had left to show in connection with the account of the NSL. The documents state that Imran remained an MNA between 2002 to 2007 and during this period, he did not receive anything from the said account, as there was no receivable amount in it. However, by 2013, the money in the account was spent so there was nothing to show in the financial documents submitted with the ECP for the 2013 elections. Meanwhile, PTI Secretary-General Jahangir Tareen also submitted in the apex court on Monday the detailed revenue record of his 18, 566 acres of leased land.
