Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of completing the Punjab Institute of Cardiology-II (PIC-II) to ease the patient burden on the existing Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC-I). During her visit to the under-construction hospital at Canal Bank on Sunday, she directed the team to expedite efforts to make the facility operational as soon as possible. The Chief Minister noted that efforts to provide comprehensive cardiology services across every district in Punjab are already in motion. She added that the newly introduced card system for children’s heart surgeries has significantly streamlined hundreds of operations for young patients. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reviewed the ongoing construction, inspecting various departments, building materials, and other project aspects. She praised Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority CEO Shahmeer Iqbal for his efforts and suggested further design improvements for the hospital. Additionally, she instructed officials to ensure the timely delivery of essential machinery for PIC-II. Construction work on dry partition walls and the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is progressing across multiple floors. The PIC-II project, which will have a capacity of 250 beds, is set to include advanced hybrid operation theaters, emergency, surgical, and medical ICUs. Over 90 per cent of the gray structure has been completed, and the project is moving steadily toward its final stages.
