Sir: Pakistan is known in the international market for its ‘organ tourism’ and has been dubbed a ‘cheap kidney bazaar’. Private hospitals and clinics involved in the removal and transplant of kidneys are making millions of rupees daily without any fear. There are complaints of taking out a kidney without the knowledge of patients admitted in private and government hospitals. The government should launch a crackdown on the kidney trade mafia that is earning millions of rupees through the illegal kidney trade. Exemplary punishment should be awarded to those who exploit the poor in exchange for a few thousand rupees. It is common knowledge that there is a network of dishonest doctors and middlemen who carry out the job of kidney transplantation and trade. They must be penalised to put an end to this cruel practice.BINA SAJJADGujrat
