Sir: Massive human rights violations are being committed by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir as a matter of routine. India has deployed 700,000 army personnel and directed its forces to use all necessary force against the people of Kashmir to force them to abandon their movement for freedom from India. In spite of tall claims of zero tolerance on human rights violations, the unfortunate happenings such as killings, custodial disappearances, fake encounters, rapes, molestations, torture, arrests and detentions cannot end in the presence of a huge military. The shameful tragedy of gang rape and ruthless murder of two girls Neelofer and Asiya in Shopian by Indian forces and the aftermath of this incident shows the ruthless behaviour of the Indian forces and ineptitude of the government. Kashmir is a place where expression of resentment in a civilised manner is curbed by force. During the last twelve months at least 70 Kashmiri youths were killed through indiscriminate firing on peaceful processions. These acts unveil the terrible face of Indian democracy.Innocent Kashmiris raise their voice through peaceful protest and appeal to the world’s human rights champions to stop India from this genocide.ZAHID RASHIDRawalpindi l
