Sir: As we witness the dawn of 2010, apart from a few joyous moments such as winning the T-20 or the signing of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, the preceding year was indeed a traumatic one with hundreds of lives lost, millions displaced and the nation left to mourn the loss of their loved ones. However, the heroic acts of our military jawaans and other law enforcement officials have saved thousand of lives. The magnitude of the Karachi Ashura tragedy would have been much higher had not the brave Abdul Razaq of Pakistan Rangers apprehended the suicide bomber. We are indebted to such jawaans that the military offensive in South Waziristan is ongoing and the extremist forces are running out of places to hide. Such cowardly acts reflect their fear and frustration. As a nation we must offer our unconditional support to the security and armed forces that are fighting for a better tomorrow.SADIA HUSSAINIslamabad
