Sir: Waging the war against Yemen is a sign of inhumanity, cruelty and coercion. It has caused many civilian deaths and homelessness. More than 500 deaths have been reported so far. Pakistan’s military support towards Saudi Arabia for the invasion on Yemen can harm us again as we have already paid the price of involvement in the US-led war against Afghanistan. And if Pakistan intervenes directly or indirectly in this Sunni-Shia war it would not be a good move because the Sunni-Shia divergence is already gaining strength here to destabilise the state’s power. So, this participation in the conflict may further widen the tension and insecurity between the two sects. In this situation we must admit our own failures in coping with internal security problems and the grave repercussions of terrorism. We need to accept that if we do not properly provide safeguards to our nation, how can we give support to others? It can be hoped that PM Nawaz Sharif will make a decision in the country’s favour.IMRAN KHOSOVia Email
