Sir: One of the intellectuals in a literary session held under the auspices of the Pakistan Intellectual Forum (PIF) at the Writers’ Guest House, Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad, last week remarked, “People choose to be silent over injustice because they know there is no justice at all in our country.” Doubtless there is passivity, hopelessness and apathy in our society; there is poverty (extreme poverty in rural Sindh), ignorance and slavery in the country. Undeniably, all these evils exist because of injustice in society. It is noticed that a vast majority of people have given up hope- whether due to stubbornness, ignorance, weakness, or some other reason, but like many other thinking minds, I conclude that the phenomenon exists due to continuing injustice in society. Is there anyone, any institution in the country that may warn the injustice-doers by saying, “Enough is enough now and stop this injustice with the people of this country.” HASHIM ABROIslamabad
