ISLAMABAD — The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is bracing for a sweeping overhaul amid reports of a powerful “cybercrime mafia” allegedly operating within the institution, sources revealed on Monday.
According to informed officials, senior police officer Syed Khurram Ali is expected to take charge as part of a top-level reshuffle aimed at restoring transparency and accountability. The move comes as authorities prepare for what insiders describe as “a major surgery” within the agency.

Multiple NCCIA officers are likely to face termination and disciplinary action following allegations of corruption, misuse of authority, and financial misconduct. The government has also reopened previously suppressed inquiries and criminal cases against several individuals.
Investigations will reportedly cover irregular recruitments, fake promotions, money laundering, and cryptocurrency dealings. Authorities have ordered scrutiny of the officers’ foreign trips, digital fund transfers, and suspected digital asset holdings, including bitcoins allegedly moved to fake accounts.

Officials said the government plans to assign these sensitive probes to officers with proven integrity. “This time, the investigation will be handled by those who cannot be approached,” a senior source familiar with the development told reporters.
