WhatsApp is working on a powerful new feature that will make replying to messages in group chats much more organized and efficient.
According to a report from WaBetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging platform is testing threaded message replies, a feature commonly seen on social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). This new reply format will allow users to respond to specific messages within a dedicated thread directly below the original message.
Currently, replies on WhatsApp appear as standalone messages, which often makes it hard to track the context of a conversation—especially in busy group chats. However, with this update, all replies to a message will be grouped together, clearly visible under the original message, helping to preserve the flow and meaning of discussions.
In beta versions released for both Android and iOS, a small icon now appears on messages that have replies. Tapping this icon will open the full thread of responses associated with that message. Users can then directly reply within the thread, keeping topic-based conversations in one place.
This feature is expected to be particularly useful in large group chats, where hundreds of messages are exchanged daily, and finding older replies can be overwhelming. Threaded replies will improve chat readability and reduce the need to scroll through long chat histories.
While this feature is currently being tested in beta versions, WhatsApp has not confirmed an exact release date for the global rollout. However, its presence in recent updates strongly indicates it may launch publicly in the near future.
