ISLAMABAD: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of police has arrested Kishan Kumar from Haripur who was involved in the rape attempt against the disabled female patient at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) during late hours of the night. After his arrest the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary presented the first enquiry report of the incident before the media at PIMS. The report revealed that the 22-years-old victim who was disabled from one leg and one arm and she can’t speak properly. While talking to media, he said that Kishan Kumar has been arrested and the departmental action has also commenced against the culprit, who is already under suspension. He informed the media that a doctor and some other staff members who were on duty in ICU at that night are also suspended. He said that although there is not any eyewitness of the incident, however the girl is not in the condition to level charge against any one. He said that the big changes in the hospital may take place after the terrible incident, if deemed necessary. He said,“ Those who were found involved in the incident would be dealt ironically”. It is also learnt that State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal has also took the decision to change those doctors who are sitting on important positions in PIMS. He also sought a detailed report about the harassment of female staff and patients by male staff members during last decade. While taking notice of alleged rape of disable patient at PIMS, CADD State Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudry on Tuesday assured the Lower House of Parliament that exemplary punishment would be given to culprit and no one would be spared in this regard. Terming it a shameful act, the PPP leader Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho regretted that the government is totally silent over the issue and could not release a single word of condemnation. It is regrettable that a disable female patient in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the great hospital in the capital city has facaed such incident. She quesaationed from the legislators that if no one is safe in government run hospital then where people would go. She also claimed that the accused person has some relation with MNA and demanded impartial inquiry and punishment to the concerned person. Responding to Azra Pechuho, CADD State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that when the incident came into the notice of PIMS management, he immediately formed a committee who would submit an enquiry report. He said that the disables patient is still in PIMS on ventilator and she was unable to speak adding that there is no evidence of rape. However, efforts are being made to do so. First Information Report (FIR) has already been registered and he assured the house that exemplary punishment should be given to the culprits. The minister also accepted the negligence on part of the hospital management and said that it should be properly investigated that why such type of situation created in a government run hospital in the capital city.
