‘Pakistan needs investment in human resources, not motorways’

Published on: May 22, 2016 1:43 PM

SWAT: Who needs roads and motorway when 2.5 billion children are out of school, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday, asking the federal government to invest in education.

The PTI chairman, who was addressing a crowd of supporters here, said there was a need to invest in human resources, adding, “Motorways are for educated nations.”

“The Pakhtunkhwa government is spending on education and health. We have increased the budget for education by 2.5 times and health budget by three times.”

Billion trees to tackle global warming

Imran said that global warming was a grave issue that needed to be addressed on urgent basis. He said that Pakistan was one of the countries severely affected by global warming.

“The Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated the billion tree project to tackle global warming. We plan to grow billion trees in the next five years in order to provide clean air for the people.”

Chotuu gang vs Taliban

The PTI chief said that for the first time in Pakistan’s history, elections were held on village level. He said that there was no political interference in the provincial police department, adding that 5,000 police personnel were removed from active service in the past three years “as they had failed to perform their duty.”

“The PML-N is ruling Punjab for the past 30 years. They have destroyed their provincial departments. Mian Sahab you weren’t even able to control the Chotuu gang. The KP police, on the other hand, are laying their lives fighting the Taliban. After the murder of Soran Singh, they (KP police) apprehended the culprits within 24 hours.”

‘Will not rest until PM’s accountability’

Talking about the Panama revelations, Imran said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced an airport for Swat in the wake of Panama papers. “After Panama, the prime minister is going everywhere. He is holding rallies in almost every part of the country.”

He said that the opposition would continue pursuing the government on the Panama issue, adding that every Pakistani should his/her role in this regard. “We won’t rest until Nawaz Sharif is held accountable for the Panama revelations.”
