ISLAMABAD: The ex Director of the Ministry of Foreign Afffairs Shafqat Cheema has put an application for a plea bargain but the court which has sent him to jail for 14 days . Shafqat Cheema was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the accusations of having assets excessive than his income. NAB on Monday presented the accused in court for further remand on expiry of the 14-day remand. The defense counsel of the accused while putting the application of a plea bargain argued that if his client had the picture of a ship in his phone, it does not necessarily mean that he owns the ship. My client is impeccable and we are compelled for a plea bargain in order to resolve the matter with NAB rationally. However, the special court turned down the request of NAB for extension of the remand. It must be remembered that NAB received a bulk of complaints that the accused made several foreign visits with his family. It raised the suspicions which made the NAB raid his house where NAB discovered various passports and property documents. Thereafter, NAB arrested the accused and took a 14-day remand.
