The Ali Zafar Foundation has been acknowledged for its meritorious services and philanthropic work in the fight against Covid-19. Singer-actor Ali Zafar, who was seen actively involved in helping the transgender, needy musicians and minorities including Christian community during lockdown, received the award at the Shaan-e-Pakistan Awards ceremony at the Governor’s House Lahore. President Dr. Arif Alvi, Governor Punjab Ch Muhammad Sarwar and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar attended the grand ceremony and bestowed awards on heroes of war against coronavirus which also included frontlines workers and doctors who lost their lives while fighting this pandemic. The Ali Zafar Foundation distributed “Rashan” and cash among 11,000 families during the lockdown due to COVID19. It extended financial help to 850 distressed musicians and the transgender. Besides relief work during the pandemic, the Ali Zafar Foundation is supporting education of hundreds of girls in different schools. The foundation also provided H20 wheels to women in interior Sindh to help them carry water from far areas. It has adopted two government schools in “Lidher” and “Karbath” villages on Bedian Road near Lahore and upgraded their infrastructure in terms of building, furniture, water filters, coolers and computer labs. It provided scholarships to the University students through the Akhuwat Foundation and other NGOs. Ali Zafar had also initiated scholarships for the needy students of Punjab University. The Foundation is also helping thalassemia kids for their blood transfusion. It supports Akhuwat Educational Services providing a safe haven to 70 plus children of Bagh Munshi Ladha and employment to former dancers, musicians and the transgender. The Ali Zafar Foundation is also actively working with Sustainable Intervention Drive, Akhuwat, WCLA and PACP and other NGOs to reach out to the most marginalized segments of our society; families of dancing girls, musicians and the transgender community. It is also penitent to mention here that Ali Zafar has been a passionate fundraiser and supporter of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital during his entire career, conducting fundraising tours across America, performances in Pakistan and galvanizing communities of people to become an active part of the SKMCH donation network. The AZF also further aids the treatment of cancer patients through the financial assistance. Ali Zafar raised over USD 1 million for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital during fundraising campaign in year 2017. The Ali Zafar Foundation is a consistent donor to the Edhi Foundation with a commitment to support the late Edhi Sahab’s legacy. Above all, the foundation also donates by way of cash or in kind to widows and poor families for marriage of their daughters. Earlier this week, Ali Zafar was also nominated as the ambassador to the first & biggest knowledge city in Pakistan “Namal Knowledge City” envisioned by the Prime Minister Imran Khan.
