Some three years back, I had to travel to Karachi. Just because I had to roam around in Karachi, I decided to go by road on my own car. Apart from everything we knew about Karachi or Sindh regarding Law and Order situation, I was supposed to deal with this in real. The first thing I had to take care of, was not to travel through Sindh at night.
The next concern was to stay safe in Karachi, and spending a good amount of time without falling prey to mobile snatching to say the least. During my stay in the city, two of my cousins who were already living in Karachi had been the victim of car-snatching. One of them lost his car on 14th of February, and his sister lost her new car on 1st April – no relation with Valentines Day or April Fools Day at all.
The span I spent in the beautiful city of Karachi, I enjoyed everything but fear of being killed or robbed had ruin the fun I had expected to treat myself with. I have been the witness of mobile snatching incidents and aerial firing, though this is not extraordinary if you are living in Karachi.
Criminals don’t take birth in any particular region, it’s a state of mind that any race, region or just any creed could go with. Crimes take place everywhere but it’s the prime responsibility of the government to eliminate evil elements to create a safer place for living in.
And this safety is ensured by police forces. If you can travel through Punjab at night, you can use mobile phone while you walk in a nearby garden at night, you can roll down your window at a signal to help a beggar, if your car doesn’t get robbed of its side mirrors, you can travel in buses and even use laptops while traveling because no one would get on the bus to rob you off of your belongings then I guess Punjab is fair enough in spending good amount of money and time on strengthening police forces. Similarly, Dolphin Force has added to the safety measures and it does make a difference.
The latest initiative of Riverine Police Force is a continuation of the same aim, around 700 constables were recruited and Pakistan Army imparted training to pep them up for fighting against anti-social and criminal elements. The said police force shall curb crime along the river Indus. Strengthened police system shall also ensure rescue and relief operations in the region, making the province even safer for us all.
So, the point is whoever is against the fact that Punjab spends a lot on establishing safer cities should stop complaining or if they don’t, they should be made to live in a police free-state just for a day. We can’t lead a peaceful life just for a day without police intervention at all. Apart from irregularities or loopholes, Police as an institution should be appreciated for their 24/7 efforts in making us spend a good day and in making environment favourable enough for us to sleep peacefully at night.
