One more coronavirus positive case was detected late last night, bringing the number of cases to 14 out of which one was referred earlier to Dow University Hospital, Karachi, and 13 have been kept at Quarantine Centre of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) and Isolation Ward of the Chandka Medical College Hospital. On Wednesday, samples of 9 positive cases which were detected at the very outset were taken on completion of their 14 days quarantine period. Swabs of 27 family members of another patient were also obtained and sent to Karachi through their local collection centre for analysis. Meanwhile, SMBBMU Registrar, has issued three show cause notices, with the approval of competent authority, to Dr. Abdul Rasheed Shaikh, Senior Lecturer, ET Department, Dr. Jai Kirshan, Associate Professor of Pathology and Dr. Sarfraz Tunio, Lecturer, Department of Pathology, for committing violation of E&D Rules of government employees and serious blunder in the current disastrous situation, the show cause notices added. They have been directed to show cause within three days of the issuance or strict disciplinary action will be taken against them failing which ex-parte action shall be taken. These doctors allegedly refused to collect samples of suspected cases and their family members despite directions on the pretext of Personal Protective Equipment. Meanwhile, postgraduate student lady doctors working in Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital refused operation of a pregnant suspected COVID-19 patient Waheeda who was brought by her relatives from Naundero on Wednesday and they came out of the operation theatre. The postgraduate doctors said that the woman had symptoms of cough, fever and asthma. They said on inquiring her history it was revealed by the patient that she had the same symptoms since last 15 days. They said that they are of the opinion that the patient is suspect case of Corona Virus due to visible symptoms but it is yet to be established. They said they have contacted District Health Officer’s office but team is still awaited. They said they are discharging their duties under emergency but they have not yet been given required safety gadgets and gloves which should be provided to them on priority basis. Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Dr. Ershad Hussain Kazmi said while talking to this Scribe in the evening that he has already sent them Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the AMS of the SZWH told him during the day that the woman was in the OT but no update is available whether she was operated or not.
