LAHORE: As many as 22 directors of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Saturday were appointed as focal persons in order to eliminate dengue larvae from all its premises. All LDA officials were directed to ensure cleanliness in the areas assigned to them, including office buildings, official residences, community centres, parking plazas, stores, workshops, walled plots and other places of LDA. It is pertinent to mention that LDA appointed all these directors the very next day after dengue larvae was found within the premises of LDA Complex on Friday. The Environmental Protection Department’s (EPD) dengue surveillance team had identified the presence of dengue larvae at the complex. An LDA official said all focal persons would personally inspect the venues and submit a report with regard to sanitation and non-presence of mosquito breeding places in their respective jurisdictions. Besides carrying out fogging and spray of insecticides at all three blocks of LDA Office in Johar Town to eradicate mosquito breeding sites, fountains installed at the premises were also being kept dry, he added. The LDA administration has also made special arrangements for constant draining out of water that was being used for construction purposes, besides disposal of other waste material from under-construction block of the office, the official said, adding that the contractor working on the block has been directed to keep the site clean and dry all the time. He said the site was being regularly monitored by the concerned staff of LDA Engineering Wing in order to ensure proper drainage of water and disposal of other waste material. There was no possibility of breeding of dengue larvae at the site, the LDA official assured.
