KARACHI: The Mayor Karachi, Wasim Akhtar has said on Friday that Karachi needs development plan instead of National Action Plan (NAP) and targeted operations. ‘There will be no need of ‘operations’, if the city gets its due share as Karachiites had voted to bring about a change and development in the city”. Akhtar while talking to the media persons on the premises of Sindh Assembly building urged both central and provincial governments to announce development packages for the city of Karachi. He said CM Sindh, Murad Ali shah has experience of working in different organizations and he can share his experience for the reconstruction of this metropolis. City mayor also invited all political parties to join hands for the sake of peace and prosperity.” Civic issues, particularly garbage dumps, irregular water supply, dilapidated roads’ networks have taken the city while other infrastructures are also in worst condition, we will endow all our energy to overcome the issues being faced by the people of Karachi,” added. Leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly and MQM Pakistan’s leader, Khuwaja Izharul Hassan said, “We have arranged a meeting of Provincial government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), as first one is empowered while the second has no authority”. Opposition leader also requested the media personals that they shall remind the Chairman PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari about his promise to meet the with MQM legislators on empowering the local bodies. Akhter, after electing as the City Mayor visited the Sindh Assembly for the first time. During his visit, he met with the Speaker Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani and other members of the Assembly. He thanked Speaker and other members for warm welcome. “I am thankful to PPP chairman, who raised voice against my arrest, Bilawal is the son of Shaheed Benazir who had sacrificed her life for the cause of democracy and national sovereignty, BB lived in and loved Karachi, I am optimistic that Bilawal will support me in developing the city,” Akhter said adding that I wanted to visit Sindh Assembly prior to assuming my charge as Mayor of Karachi.
