Prince William admits parenthood is a ‘struggle’ in honest interview

Published on: November 23, 2016 1:59 AM

Unimpressed parents have hit back at comments made by Prince William about parenthood being a “struggle”.

The duke of Cambridge made candid revelations about his life as a father to Prince George, 3, and one-year-old Princess Charlotte during an appearance on a talk show in Vietnam.

He admitted he has “struggled at times” with parenting, saying, “The alteration from being a single, independent man to going into marriage and then having children is life-changing. George is a right little rascal sometimes, he keeps me on my toes, but he’s a sweet boy. And Charlotte, bearing in mind I haven’t had a sister, so having a daughter is a very different dynamic. I adore my children very much and I’ve learnt a lot about myself and about family just from having my own children.”

Undoubtedly Prince William meant the comments as offering some insight into his family life and showing he’s able to relate to other parents around the world.

But they didn’t go down too well with other mums and dads, who say he can’t claim to know about struggles because he’s led a ‘privileged’ life.

One wrote, “This man has no idea what it means to ‘struggle’ in life.”

Another Twitter user said, “Yeah! Must be really hard not having to worry about money + having staff to look after your kids.”

Others claimed they struggle as a parent because the government “gives Prince William a fair chunk” of their money.

Indeed, the Royals weren’t the most popular people last week after it was announced they would be given £396million for repairs to Buckingham Palace.

More than 100,000 people signed a petition calling for the queen to pay for the repairs herself.

The petition was started after it was announced on Friday that the taxpayer would be entirely funding a £369 million 10-year refurbishing project.

Critics immediately pointed out that public money was also crucially needed elsewhere, such as in schools and hospitals.

The 38 Degrees petition, started by Mark Johnson, said, “There is a national housing crisis, the NHS is in crisis, austerity is forcing cuts in many front line services. Now the Royals expect us to dig deeper to refurbish Buckingham Palace.”
