Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday said that PM Imran Khan has summoned a report pertaining to the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif’s close aide and former advisor Irfan Siddiqui. Firdous affirmed that whoever found guilty of violating the law will have to face the consequences. She also accused the PML-N of making a mountain out of a molehill on the issue only to gain ‘political oxygen’. Separately, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Aamir Zulfiqar called on Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser at the Parliament House on Monday. The speaker had summoned the IGP to brief him about the matter of handcuffing of former advisor to prime minister Irfan Siddiqui. During the meeting, the NA speaker regretted the handcuffing of Irfan Siddiqui. The IGP said the investigation into the matter is underway. “Every citizen has equal right of delivery of justice,” Qaiser said. The meeting was also attended by interior minister, chief commissioner and MNA Ali Nawaz Awan. Earlier, the speaker made a telephonic contact with the interior minister and expressed his concern over the matter. He demanded a thorough probe into arrest and handcuffing of Irfan Siddiqui for alleged violation of tenancy law. He said that Irfan Siddique was a seasoned columnist and a renowned educationist whose arrest has raised concerns in the journalistic community and the academia.
