A fire broke out in the FR tower, a high-rise building in Dhakawhere more than 15 people were pronounced dead, and many injured.
The tower is located at the Banani commercial district of Dhaka, on a busy avenue. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, many people cried for help.
Citizens who were trapped started climbing onto ropes and cables to get out of the building. A minimum of six people died trying to escape the 22-story building.
Emergency services said at least 65 people were being treated in hospitals
Due to the blaze, many civilians were trapped inside the tower even though the intensity of the fire was reduced.
Abdullah Ibne Zaid, a military spokesperson stated that a Sri Lankan man was brought to the hospital along with 45 other people who suffered burn wounds.
Scores of firefighters backed by navy and air force specialists struggled to bring the blaze under control
The death toll is expected to rise with the amount of people injured, even though a rescue operation has been launched to save the rest.
Attempts of extinguishing the fire by helicopters and emergency crews have caused thick black smoke to cover the area, causing huge amounts of onlookers to gather around, causing havoc.
More than 21 firetrucks and 100 firemen were at the building to rescue the people and lines of ambulances were there.
