ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Senior Vice President Khalid Malik called upon the government to cooperate with the private sector in the implementation of a productivity quality and innovation framework that would make Pakistan a globally competitive country. He said that enhancing the PQI framework was vital in improving the competitiveness of industry, adding that the government should arrange for international experts to help the local industry improve its competitiveness. He was talking to a delegation of the PQI Secretariat that visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The delegation was led by Dr Woon Kin Chung, an Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) expert and former CEO of Singapore Productivity Centre. Program Officer of APO Arsyoni Buana, Special Initiatives Manager Syed Salman Masood and National Productivity Organisation (NPO) Acting Training Manager Muhammad Zafarullah were also present at the occasion. Dr Woon Kin Chung said that he had been engaged by the Pakistani government to develop a PQI framework and the purpose of his visit to the ICCI was to take in the input of the private sector to accomplish this task in consultation with all stakeholders. He also discussed the role and future perspective of the private sector in PQI framework. Salman Masood said that the Planning and Development Ministry, in collaboration with the NPO, had taken the initiative to develop the framework with multiple consultative meetings being organised to analyze the present situation of Pakistan. He said that relevant stakeholders from the public and private sectors would be engaged in developing the PQI framework.
