BAHAWALPUR: The four-day Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally will be held from February 9 at the historic Derawar Fort in Cholistan. TDCP decided to extend the route of 12th Cholistan Jeep Rally to 500 km which will cover all the three districts of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawal Nagar. According to the schedule, registration of vehicles, technical inspection and medical tests of the drivers and navigators would be held on February 9. The race of stock category vehicles will start from Fort Derawar at 8am on February 10. One of the major features of the TDCP rally would be the cultural night which would be held on February 11th while the prize distribution ceremony would be staged on February 12th. Section 144 would be imposed on the route of the desert rally while congested public places along the rally would be covered throughout by barbed wire. For the successful holding of this mega event, a high level meeting was convened to finalize the arrangements which was held in Bahawalpur, Commissioner Saqib Zafar directed all officials concerned of TDCP and administrative officers of Divisional Administration to give a final shape to all the arrangements before 31st of January to hold this highly significant sports and cultural event in a befitting manner. He also directed to decorate with lighting “The Historic and Crumbling Forts like Derawer Fort, Khair Garh Fort, Bajnot Fort, Nawan Kot Fort, Deen Garh Fort, Moj Garh Fort, Marrot Fort, Jam Garh Fort and Mehr Garh Fort. He also directed for arranging special sports and cultural events on the occasion to promote Cholistani culture and traditions. TDCP started the Cholistan Jeep Rally event in the majestic desert of Cholistan during the year 2005 with a view to promote Southern Punjab as a winter tourist destination and to promote motor sports in Pakistan.
