A petition seeking action against Civil Lines police for their failure to register an FIR against leaders of far-right outfits who incited sedition against the state and threatened top judicial and military officials following Aasia Bibi’s acquittal was fixed for hearing on Thursday. The hearing of the petition filed by one Abdullah Malik against Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) head Ashraf Jalali and others would now begin at a sessions court in Lahore. On Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Ahmed Khan Kharal accepted the petition and directed Civil Lines SHO to furnish his report on November 14. Petitioner Abdullah Malik has submitted that the station house officer (SHO) of the Civil Lines police station failed to file an FIR on his complaint. He held that the police appeared reluctant to take action against the accused [due to] their power and influence in the society, including having direct contacts within the police force. A copy of the application to lodge an FIR, dated November 1 and addressed to the Civil Lines SHO, states that TLP leaders had threatened the judges of the Supreme Court, passed an edict to murder the country’s Constitutional prime minister and incited their party workers to spark riots. The petitioner has requested the court to pass orders to ensure legal action is taken against the TLP leaders as well as police officials, if the latter are reluctant to register a criminal case against the former.
