KARACHI: The government has fixed the support price of wheat at Rs 1300 per 40 kilograms in the province. This was informed by the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary Leader and Minister of Food, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while replying to the supplementary question in the Sindh Assembly during Question Hour here on Tuesday. Sindh government’s department of food is playing a basic and vital role in the purchase of wheat from the growers in the province, Nisar Khuhro said, the purchase process of wheat in the province was monitored by the food department itself. Before the start of wheat harvesting process, the food department had set targets of buying the crop in concern districts of the province. Nisar Khuhro informed the house that for the purpose of wheat purchase, centres have been established. In this regard, the food department has established 2 centres in Hyderabad, 11 in Matiari, 7 in Tando Allahyar, 4 in Tando Mohammed Khan, 22 in Dadu, 15 in Jamshoro, 12 in Badin, 36 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 44 in Naushahro Feroze, 43 in Sanghar, 28 in Sukkur, 41 in Ghotki, 50 in Khairpur, 20 in Mirpurkhas, 29 in Umerkot, 11 in Larkana, 14 in Kumbar, 11 in Shikarpur, 11 in Jacobabad and 22 in Kashmore. Nisar further said there were 442 centres established in the province for the purchase of wheat. Replying to a query during the Question Hour, he said, the food department has taken serious actions against corruption. We have given mandatory retirement to one officer who was found guilty, mandatory retirement means that we retire someone before his retirement age.
