Police kill four kidnappers in ‘encounter’

LAHORE: As many as four alleged kidnappers were killed by police during an alleged encounter in Manawa area of the provincial capital on Saturday.

According to sources, CIA Cantt police were taking four arrested kidnappers – wanted in several robberies and kidnapping for ransom cases – for identification in the wee hours of Saturday when their accomplices started firing on a police van, which was retaliated by police, resulting into killing of the four alleged kidnappers, while their accomplices managed to escape.

The deceased have been identified as Nadeem, Azam, Ijaz and Abdul Sattar. It might be mentioned here that the suspects had earlier kidnapped a boy of Samanabad area for ransom. However, they killed him despite getting ransom money of Rs 3 million from his family in Faisalabad. The dead bodies have been shifted to the city mortuary for autopsies.

Separately, Hayer police killed an unidentified motorcycle snatcher in Defence C area on Saturday.

Police said that three unidentified persons snatched a bike on gunpoint from a citizen and tried to escape, but police chased them after receiving a radio message about the incident. The suspects opened fire on police team near Defenec C area, which was retaliated by police. Resultantly, one of the suspects died on the spot while two others managed to escape. The dead body was sent to the city morgue.

In another incident, two lawyers were shot dead by another lawyer over a property issue in Shahdra police limits.

The deceased, identified advocate Irfan Mushtaq Khokar of Jia Musa Shahdra, was on his way back home along with his friend advocate Afzal when advocate Bilal approached them and started firing on them resulting into their instant death.

Police said that the cause behind the double murder was a property issue between Irfan and Bilal. Police arrested the accused advocate Bilal. Further investigation is underway. The dead bodies were shifted to city mortuary.

Also, a 28-year-old-man lost his life when his speedy motorcycle collided with a road divider in Ghalib Market area.

The deceased was a doctor by profession. Police said that the victim was on his way on a heavy bike when he lost control and collided with a road divider on Sherpao Bridge, resulting into his instant death. Police handed over the dead body to heirs after completing legal formalities.
