SHIKARPUR: Justice (rtd) Amir Hani Muslim, appointed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to head the judicial commission on sanitation and clean water in Sindh, on Saturday inspected the construction of Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), near Hajano village of Shikarpur district. Reportedly, he expressed anger and dissatisfaction over the use of substandard material for constructing the embankments of waste stabilisation pond and rebuked the public health officer Agha Naeem. He further ordered to rebuild its embankments while directing the Shikarpur deputy commissioner (DC) Syed Hassan Raza to monitor the construction himself. He also issued directives to freeze the payments to the contractor Iqbal Shaikh until the DC Raza expresses satisfaction over the construction work of waste stabilisation pond while all the expenses would be borne by the contractor. What further irked the judge was the appointment of sick person as the XEN of public health and engineering department (PHED) namely Sabir Shaikh. He ordered to replace him immediately and passed harsh remarks about the contractor and the team of PHED. Later, he enquired about the pending construction of scheme of cattle colony that had been handed over to the provincial works and services department, and summoned the secretary of the department next Wednesday. Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge (DSJ) Muhammad Suhail Laghari complained that the chairman of municipal committee (MC) has been interrupting several crucial matters. As a response, Justice (rtd) Amir Hani Muslim ordered to send a formal letter on behalf of former chief minister of Sindh to the local government secretary requesting to suspend the Shikarpur’s chairman of MC, and transfer his authoritative powers to the Shikarpur DC Raza for the next six months. He also visited the RBUT Civil Hospital in Shikarpur and expressed disappointment over cleanliness and poor drainage system of the hospital. Published in Daily Times, July 15th 2018.
