KHAIRPUR: The Officers Welfare Association (OWA) of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Thursday organised a ceremony to officially remark upgradation of five officers of SALU from grade 16 to grade 17. Reportedly, SALU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Parveen Shah issued the orders among five officers of general cadre. In her address to the ceremony, Dr Shah encouraged and appreciated the officers of university administration for their remarkable efforts. “Officers are the main pillar of administration, who have contributed to the development and progress of SALU,” she said while advising them to keep rendering their services to upgrade the institution in terms of good governance. The OWA president Muhammad Murad Pirzada admired Dr Shah for her continuous and untiring efforts for the success and growth of SALU. The upgraded officers include Syed Karam Ali Shah, Syed Hamid Ali Shah, Aijaz Hussain Mailto, Aijaz Hussain Mahar and Parveez Ahmed Phulpoto. SALU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Registrar Prof Dr Taj Muhammad Lashari, Media Coordinator Nazeer Ahmed Mangnejo, OWA General Secretary Ali Nawaz Chandio and notables were also present on the occasion. GDA allots ticket to Ghous Ali Shah to contest election from NA-208 The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) on Thursday awarded party ticket to the veteran politician and former chief minister of Sindh Justice (Rtd) Syed Ghous Ali Shah to contest from Khairpur in the upcoming general elections 2018. An alliance of different political parties is led by the Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi alias Pir Pagara. Justice (Rtd) Ghous Ali Shah has obtained the ticket to contest elections from NA-208 constituency of Khairpur-I (old NA-215) and PS-26 (old PS-29). SSF expresses sorrow over death of Rasool Bux Palijo The Sindhi Speakers Forum (SSF) Chairman Ghaffar Mahar on Thursday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of senior politician and founder of Awami Tahreek Rasool Bux Palijo. “Palijo played a prominent role in the struggle of securing the rights of Sindh province and downtrodden and poverty-stricken people,” he remarked while adding that he dedicated his whole life for the people of Pakistan. Besides being a politician, he was a notable writer, thinker and lawyer. Mahar appreciated Palijo for supporting equal participation of women in politics. “He will be remembered for his service to his community,” he asserted. Mahar termed his demise as a tragic loss. ASI dies, three officers injured in road accident An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) died on Thursday while three officers were injured in a road accident near Ranipur, a town in northern Sindh province. Reportedly, the station house officer (SHO) of Akri police station Bachal Qazi, along with ASI Akber Khaskheli and two other officers, was going to conduct a raid in a car when a tractor-trolley ploughed into their car at the national highway. Consequently, Akber Khaskheli died on the spot while SHO and two constables sustained critical injuries. They were rushed to Chandika Medical Hospital. Meanwhile, the tractor-trolley driver managed to flee from the scene while the Ranipur Police seized the tractor-trolley and lodged case about the incident. Girl dies, youth injured in road mishap A girl died on Thursday while a youth sustained injuries in a road accident. Reportedly, both were travelling on a motorcycle when it hurtled down the road and slipped at Larkana-Khairpur road. Consequently, 10-year-old Savera Gilal died on the spot and Munawar Gilal was rushed to Gambat Hospital for treatment. The deceased’s body was handed over to her heirs after autopsy. SALUTA demands leave encashment for faculty members The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (SALUTA) members on Thursday demanded an immediate issuance of in-service leave encashment of the faculty members of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) during a joint press conference in Khairpur. Meanwhile, they criticised the administration over delaying tactics and alleged that University of Sindh and Karachi University had already dispensed the payments of leave encashment. They reiterated their demand to remove the registrar from his position and accused him of ‘illegally’ occupying the post after notification of Sindh Universities Amendment Act 2018. They further demanded to renovate the campus building, provide essential chemical equipment to the science laboratories, and provide air-conditioners (ACs) and fans to all departments during summer.
